Recent legislation: House Resolution 2749 or The Food Safety Enhancement Act of 2009, and current legislation: Senate Bill 510, The Food Safety Modernization Act of 2010 are the U.S. governments latest attempts to increase food safety and cut down on food borne illness in our country.

Some claim that better inspection and regulation will increase safety. Others say that over-regulation and increased red tape and paperwork will drive small farms out of business.

We ask you the public: Where do you stand? What is our acceptable level of risk to continue having the safest, most abundant and most inexpensive food supply in the world?

  1. Wow,

GREAT blog so far! Thanks for the information. I believe everything our government does is far too intrusive in our lives. This will be the next thing. Imagine if I can't even grow a garden at home and share my fruits and vegetables with my friends! OUTRAGE does not begin to describe it!

Why can't congress compromise on something that will benefit EVERYONE?

  2. Seeing as I'm not much of an expert on the subject I can't give to much insight, except that I do think that it is a great subject because of the strong pro's and con's on either side. I am personally against the stricter regulations, if people cant trust the companies then maybe it will help push for a more self sustainable society where more local growers can supply the cities and the rural areas can grow their own stuff if possible.

Any ways... Who do y'all have winning the argument?

  3. There is no winner to the argument. I real charge is only to present the Pro's and Con's. But if you ask most of us, we will tell you there really needs to be a compromise...there should be a way to do this without the taxation and excessive regulation...but good luck getting congress to do anything at this point!
